About me

Lasting memories through breathtaking, soulful imagery

A photographer with backpack and tripod stands before dead trees and red dunes in Deadvlei, Namibia.
Man in green fleece takes selfie with safari jeep under acacia tree at golden hour in African wilderness.

Born in Namibia and shaped by the stillness of its wild places, I’ve spent nearly a decade guiding and photographing across Southern Africa. The bush has been my classroom for as long as I can remember, and over the years it’s taught me that the best moments rarely announce themselves. They reveal themselves slowly to those willing to wait.

Testimonials

Thank you, Johan! What a fabulous trip we had in Botswana & South Africa. Your ability to create and execute an itinerary that met the wishes of all six people in our group was excellent. But, the icing on the cake was your ability to anticipate directional movement of the animals and then get the boat or safari vehicle into the best position possible to get some great photography shots.

This was truly the very best vacation/trip I’ve experienced in my life.

If any friends want to go to Africa, please, please let me put you in contact with Johan!

At the outset Johan struck me as being confident, knowledgeable, open, responsive, kind and

emotionally intelligent way beyond his years. He has an intuitive sense of others. However he remains authentic and reserves judgment. Johan, whilst sociable and humorous, observes boundaries and reveals his integrity in his

interaction with the world around him.

I recently had the pleasure of a trip to Kubo Island and Mashatu game reserve in Botswana. Johan, as part of the Go Gravel team was an excellent guide with boundless energy and enthusiasm and helped ensure our group were getting the best photographic opportunities whilst helping us to understand fully the behaviour of the various animal and bird species on the land.

It was a pleasure to travel with Johan and I look forward, as I’m sure the rest of the group would, to travelling and being guided by Johan again in the future
